This serious true film is very well crafted and worth your total focus when viewing in a theater or at home. The heavy and authentic story of the military dictatorship in Brazil makes the story very human. Fernanda Torres leads a solid cast in this profound and heartwrenching story. I was glad to see this in a theater to allow me to fully engross myself in this big screen story. It was also very valuable to have no distractions while following the subtitles. Be sure to focus on this film with no distractions. The screenplay is outstanding. The choice of words is compelling. The family relationships feel very real and touching. It takes you to the place and time where the film occurred so well. My only complaint is the lack of emotion the family shows when their father disappears. They probably intentionally avoided some of the more Hollywood portrayals of grief and sadness. But it does feel like they missed some real emotion that would have occurred midway through the film by the family and kids. That said, the overall portrayal is outstanding and it does deserve the 2025 Academy Award nominations it received. VERY impressive for a foreign language film of a heavy subject.
